Manastone — every socket at once

Engraving rerolls every socket, not a single one. Why auto engrave is the most expensive button in the window when the goal is set too narrowly.

Manastones are the second tab of the enhancement window, and the system that looks most like it came from another game: put stones in sockets, collect flat stats, done.

That is not how it works here.

On the left the empty sockets, on the right the goal for automatic engraving. The price per attempt is at the bottom.

The difference that explains everything

The window states the decisive line:

After Engraving, all slots will gain effects.

Engraving does not fill one socket, it fills all of them — and rolls which effect lands where. One attempt costs 2,000 kinah plus the stones you put in.

So manastones are not a crafting system, they are a roll. And a roll you repeat until the result fits.

What can come up

The goal panel lists the possible effects with their ranges. For the weapon in the shot it looked like this:

EffectRange
Attack1–3
Defense10–30
Accuracy bonus5–7
Evasion bonus5–7
Critical hit5–7
Critical hit resist5–7
Block7–10
HP30–60
MP15–30

The numbers belong to the item, not to the system: the weapon tooltip on the theostone page shows manastone lines like HP +160 on an endgame weapon — several times the range above. What you see here is the range for this piece, not a general table.

On top of that there are three grades — basic, higher and ultimate. Which grade shifts which range goes in later. (Still open.)

Auto engrave — the most expensive button in the window

Above engrave sits a second button: auto engrave, along with a panel called auto engraving goal settings. You set a goal — grade, amount, the effects you want — and the game repeats the roll until the goal is met.

When it is worth it

The same boundary as with soul binding and theostone: the stones sit in the item. Replace the item and everything in it is gone — manastones do not come back from extraction either.

While levelling, then, engrave no more than a single roll costs. Rolling seriously towards a goal belongs on pieces that stay.

In short

  • Engraving rerolls every socket, not one
  • 2,000 kinah per attempt, plus the stones
  • Auto engrave runs until the goal is met — the narrower the goal, the costlier
  • Roll seriously only on pieces you keep
