Theostone — one effect, one weapon

The proc stone in the weapon slot. What it gives you, why only one counts, and why you do not engrave it into a weapon you replace next week.

The enhancement window has five tabs. Most players know the first one.

Growth, Manastone, Theostone, Soul Binding, Transfer. The third tab is the one nobody talks about.

Theostone is the successor to Aion 1’s godstones: a stone you engrave into your weapon, giving it a chance to trigger an extra effect on attack.

Two examples from the game, so the scale is clear:

StoneEffect
Nua’s Scheme2 % chance to inflict paralyse for 2s, 15s cooldown
Traufnir’s Courage1 % chance to deal 10,000 fire damage, 1s cooldown

The rule is in the tooltip

Only one Theostone’s effect applies when identical Theostones are engraved.

In other words: one effect, one weapon. Engraving the same stone repeatedly gains you nothing. There is no stack to climb here — there is a decision you make once.

Which makes the interesting question not “which stone is strongest” but “which effect fits what I actually do”. A 2 % paralyse is worth something entirely different in PvP than 10,000 fire damage at 1 % during a boss phase. A stone at the top of a ranking can be the wrong one for your class.

When to engrave

In the tooltip the stone sits at the bottom, below the manastones. A weapon carries exactly one such line.

Only once the weapon stays.

While levelling the weapon changes constantly, and everything inside it changes with it. For enhancement that means “spread wide” — for theostones the same argument applies in its harshest form: a stone in a stopgap weapon is a stone you used once.

Where the stones come from

For a long time this was the open question on this page. It was answered not by a database but by the arena’s shop.

Between the brews and the manastones: the Rare Theostone Chest at 35,000 points.

Under Consumables the arena’s trade shop sells the Rare Theostone Chest (Bound) for 35,000 abyss points. That is the first documented source — and it sits in PvP, not PvE.

For scale: the arena hands out at most 30 victory and 10 participation rewards a week, around 35,000 points together. One chest is roughly one full arena week.

An engraving can be removed — the stone does not survive it

This was the most important open question on the page, because the whole recommendation hung on it. The confirmation dialog answers it.

The red line is the entire answer.

Remove the equipped Theostone? The Theostone will be destroyed when removed.

So you are not married to a weapon forever. The slot can be freed. You just do not get the stone back — it is destroyed.

Grades and Combine

The databases list three grades — rare, epic and unique, 18 stones each, 54 types in total. Many of them also exist as a “(Bound)” version, tied to your character and no longer tradeable.

Combine theostone window with registered stones, auto register and combine x3
Register, then merge. The button bottom right works in batches.

Combine is a window of its own: Register Theostones to combine. Stones are registered from the rack on the right — by hand or via Auto Register — and then merged. The button at the bottom works in batches, here Combine x3. What comes out is theostones again, named and listed individually.

In short

  • One theostone per weapon; identical stones do not stack
  • Pick by effect, not by ranking
  • Do not engrave into weapons you are still going to replace — nor into ones still due a transfer
  • Removal works, but the stone is destroyed doing it
  • Source: Rare Theostone Chest, 35,000 abyss points in the arena shop
  • Grades: rare, epic, unique — “(Bound)” means no longer tradeable
