Aion 2 PvP — arenas, abyss, rank

Two arenas with no gear equalisation, an open zone with a ceiling, and a rank that decides which gear you are allowed to buy. How the three fit together and what to take first.

Values from the TW version, not yet verified against the EU version12 min

Aion 2 has three places for PvP, and they run on opposite rules. Two arenas reward every point of gear you invested. The open abyss punishes that investment past a certain height. And above all of it sits a rank that helps decide which gear you are allowed to buy at all.

Confuse the three and you will plan wrong in at least one of them.

The arenas equalise nothing

Arena of Cooperation window with season, rewards and the weekly cap
Four tabs: Arena of Solitude, Arena of Cooperation, Rank, Trade Shop. The numbers bottom left are the actual frame.

The Arena of Cooperation describes itself as “A 4 vs 4 battle where victory is achieved by defeating all members of the enemy team first”. The Arena of Solitude is the same thing as a duel.

In both: no gear equalisation. Whoever brings more combat power wins more often. That is not an oversight but the stated design — PvP here continues progression rather than compensating for it.

Which means the arena is not a place where you catch up. It is a place where what you built beforehand pays off.

Season, ranking points and the ladder

Arena of Solitude season bar showing 1,436 RP bronze and the promotion condition
The promotion condition names two values, not one: points AND placement.

A season runs for months — in the screenshot from 1 July to 4 November 2026. Inside it you collect ranking points (RP): they rise with wins and fall with losses.

The ladder runs bottom to top:

Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum → Diamond → Master → Grand Master → Challenger 3 → Challenger 2 → Challenger 1

At season end each tier gives a title, wings and Oath Coins — from 5,000 coins in bronze up to 100,000 plus Fiery Darkness Wings in Challenger 1. Those figures come from public season tables rather than from our own client; the order of magnitude holds, the exact rewards get checked at the EU launch.

The weekly cap is the real frame

Bottom left of the arena window sits the number that shapes your schedule:

Rewardper weekper match
Victory reward301,000
Participation reward10500

Resets every Wednesday.

Do the arithmetic. Thirty wins at 1,000 plus ten participations at 500 is 35,000 abyss points a week from the arena — if you win every time. After that the currency stops.

It is the same construction as the medals of merit: a weekly ceiling that does not reward playing a lot, but does reward playing regularly. Take your thirty wins every week and after two months you stand where a weekend marathon player does not.

What you spend arena points on

Arena trade shop, consumables tab, with prices in abyss points
Four tabs in the shop: Consumables, Growth, Gear, Wings. The most interesting entry sits in the first.

The arena’s trade shop has four tabs — Consumables, Growth, Gear and Wings. The Consumables tab closes an open question from another page:

ItemPrice
Life Brew (Bound)500
Wind Brew (Bound)500
Rare Theostone Chest (Bound)35,000
Lesser Abyssal Manastone (Bound)1,000
Lesser Abyssal Soulstone (Bound)2,000

This is the first documented source of theostones. They do not come from a dungeon and not from the market, they come from PvP — for 35,000 abyss points, which is almost exactly one full arena week.

Everything is marked (Bound): tied to the character, not resellable. What you buy here, you buy for yourself.

The abyss draws its line from above

The arena has no ceiling. The open abyss does — and that is the rule most people plan straight past.

Red client message over the game: item level limit reached, removed from the area, one hour deducted
No warning beforehand, no confirmation. The message appears once it has already happened.

Item Level limit reached. Removed from the area. Penalty: 1h of Abyss Access Hours deducted.

Chaotic Upper Reshanta admits only characters at item level 4,300 or below and combat power 400,000 or below. Grow past it and the zone removes you and deducts an hour from your abyss time budget.

The usual MMO logic inverts. Not “I gear up until I am allowed in”, but “I use the window while I still fit through it”.

The abyss rank belongs to your gear plan

Own character's leaderboard row with rank, record, rank points and tier
Rank points, match history and applied tier sit in one row. The season reset runs top left.

The abyss window has its own Rank tab: a faction leaderboard with the record (K/D/A), rank points, a tier (applied tier) and the buffs attached to it. In the screenshot the season still has 58 days to run.

The tiers carry military names. My own character sits at 3-Star Officer — and that is exactly where this page connects to the rest of your gear plan:

What the rank gives you

The two icons at the far right of the rank row are not decoration. They carry the actual reward, and you only see it on hover.

Tooltip abyss tier rewards level 14 with three percentages and two restrictions
Three percentages — and two sentences worth more than the percentages.

At tier 14 they read 3.6 % PvP damage boost, 3.6 % PvP damage tolerance and 3.6 % PvE abyss damage boost. The value grows with the tier.

Below that, two sentences that put the rank in context:

Only the highest buff rewards out of the Abyss, Arena of Solitude, and Arena of Cooperation are applied. Not applied in the Upper Abyss.

Second tooltip showing a 30 percent abyss point bonus
The second buff is the one that pays: more points for the same run.

The second icon is the more valuable one: a 30 % abyss point bonus, also scaled by tier.

What it looks like out there

The arena is tidy and capped. The open abyss is neither — out there both numbers move at once, and they move in both directions.

Combat log showing rank and abyss points lost and gained
One excerpt from the log. Dying costs, killing pays twice.

A fight’s log reads like this:

  • Character has been defeated. Lost 340 Rank Point(s). Dying costs rank points. No overview page says so, and it is the reason a rank does not simply climb with time spent.
  • Acquired 2,158 / 1,240 / 100 Rank Point(s). A win pays very unevenly.
  • Acquired 2,967 / 1,705 / 137 Abyss Point(s). And it pays twice — rank points for the rating, abyss points for the shopping.

In game the rank sits above your opponent: the target frame shows the tier before the name. You can see who you are dealing with before you commit.

The schedule

Abyss PvP does not run continuously but in windows:

WhatWhen (server time)
Abyss rift zoneTuesdays and Thursdays, 22:00, up to 35 minutes
Artifact siegestwice a week
Spacetime riftseight windows a day, every three hours

The intervals hold; the clock times are server time and differ per region. Which time zone the EU servers run on is something we check at launch.

The abyss rift zone is not a place but an appointment: 300 players per faction, entry only during the preparation phase, and entering dissolves your party.

If you start tomorrow

The shortest sensible PvP week looks like this:

  1. Arena until the cap. Thirty wins, ten participations. The most reliable abyss points in the game, and they cost no abyss time.
  2. Save abyss time for the corridor. Standing around burns the same budget as farming.
  3. Take the medals every week once you are working on the T2 set — the cap is per week, not per account balance. A single T2 → T3 step wants 120 gold medals, twelve weeks at the cap; the reasoning is on the transfer crafting page.
  4. Let the rank accumulate. Not for its own sake, but because from T4 it is an entry condition.

In short

  • Two arenas, no gear equalisation — PvP continues progression, it does not compensate for it
  • Promotion needs points and placement (silver: over 1,500 RP and within rank 600)
  • 30 victory and 10 participation rewards a week, resetting Wednesday — around 35,000 abyss points
  • Theostones come from the arena shop: Rare Theostone Chest, 35,000 AP
  • The open abyss has a ceiling: item level 4,300, combat power 400,000 — above it you are removed and lose an hour
  • Platinum medals from the rank of general — the PvP rank is part of your gear plan
  • The rank pays twice: percentages on damage and up to 30 % more abyss points — but not in the Upper Abyss
  • Abyss rift zone Tuesdays and Thursdays, artifact sieges twice a week
Is Aion 2 PvP-heavy?

Yes, but not forced. The arenas are voluntary and you can ignore them. From the upper abyss gear on, though, there is no way around it: platinum medals require the abyss rank of general, and that rank only comes from PvP. If you want the T4 set, you play PvP.

Is gear equalised in the Aion 2 arenas?

No. Neither the Arena of Solitude (1v1) nor the Arena of Cooperation (4v4) equalises gear. Whoever invested more wins more often. That is a deliberate design decision and the reason PvP here is part of progression rather than a side mode.

What is the difference between abyss points and ranking points?

Abyss points are currency — you buy gear, medals and consumables with them. Ranking points (RP) are a rating: they rise and fall with wins and losses and determine your arena tier from bronze up to challenger. RP cannot be spent.

How many arena rewards can you get per week?

They are capped: 30 victory rewards and 10 participation rewards per week, resetting every Wednesday. After that you can keep playing and keep earning ranking points, but the currency stops.

Can you become too strong for PvP in Aion 2?

In the open abyss, yes. Chaotic Upper Reshanta caps entry at item level 4,300 and 400,000 combat power. Go above it and the zone removes you and deducts an hour from your abyss time budget. The arenas have no such limit.
