Odal — the currency you do not spend
The costliest beginner mistake in Aion 2 does not cost you gold, it costs you weeks. Why Odal stays untouched while levelling and what it is worth later.

If you take one sentence away from this page, take this one: do not spend Odal while levelling.
That sounds like a detail. It is not. It is the difference between “week three and I am at 1800 gear score” and “I am stuck at 1500 and I have no idea why everyone else is faster.”
What Odal is
Odal is the currency for the game’s gambling content. You pay it for things with a random outcome: weapon rolls, dungeon rewards, early gear boxes.
That is exactly what makes it dangerous. A currency that hands you something visible right away feels good to spend — including when spending it is wrong.
Why the temptation is so strong early
On the way to level 45 you will keep running into situations where Odal is the obvious answer:
- A boss flattens you, and a weapon roll promises more damage.
- A dungeon offers to upgrade your reward for Odal.
- Someone in your group says they “pulled something insane off two rolls”.
All three come down to the same thing: what you get there lasts a few hours. What you paid for it is what you needed weeks later.
The actual reason
The main story hands you a level 57 class weapon.
That weapon beats practically anything you can gamble for beforehand. It costs you nothing beyond the time you were putting into the story anyway. And it is guaranteed — no roll, no chance, no bad luck.
So every bit of Odal you put into a weapon before then buys gear that is scheduled to become obsolete.
What you save it for
Odal belongs on Vakron’s Sky Island — and there, especially on the Conquest version.
Vakron is the strongest accelerator in mid progression: the stretch that takes you from roughly 1800 to 2200 gear score. There you use the cube to pick up exactly the pieces you are missing, instead of hoping for a random drop.
The difference is enormous. While levelling, Odal buys you a lottery ticket. At Vakron it buys you control — you decide which piece you get.
What it actually costs you
Do the maths in the currency that matters: time.
| Odal spent on | What you get | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon roll while levelling | A random weapon below level 57 | Until the story gives you one |
| Dungeon reward while levelling | One piece at your level | Until the next level up |
| Vakron cube | The piece you are missing | Hundreds of hours |
Burning Odal while levelling means farming Vakron noticeably longer for the same result later. Those are not lost minutes, those are lost evenings.
The rule of thumb
Aion 2 rewards patience in a lot of places. Odal is where it rewards patience most clearly — and punishes impatience hardest.
And if someone in chat tells you they pulled something amazing — they are telling you about their one good roll, not about the other five.
