What the game actually costs
Subscription, battle pass, shop. What money genuinely buys, where it buys nothing, and why the answer differs for PvE and PvP.
Values from the TW version, not yet verified against the EU version3 min
This page is not trying to talk you into paying, nor to tell you everything works for free. Both would be lies.
The honest answer depends on what you want out of the game.
The short version
| Your goal | Do you have to pay? |
|---|---|
| PvE, including the best gear | No |
| PvP at the highest level | Yes — there is real min-maxing through money there |
| Progressing faster | Optional, and it helps noticeably |
The subscription

Around 15 USD a month, modelled much like World of Warcraft or RuneScape.
What it unlocks is above all one thing: market access, and with it the exchange between kinah and quna. That is the actual lever, because kinah is the currency the entire economy runs on.
The battle pass
High value for the price. Even so: skippable if your goal is PvE and little PvP.
In the TW version a pass was given away on login. Whether the global launch works the same way, we will know at the start.
The shop

According to the developers, the in-game shop offers no pay-to-win outside of consumables. Everything relevant is farmable.
In practice that means: if you cannot be bothered making potions, you can buy them. It does not create a combat advantage that would not otherwise exist.
Where money genuinely changes things
At enhancement in the PvP endgame.
Enhancement rates in Aion 2 are generous — there are levels that make a single item roughly a third stronger, at a manageable chance and without downgrade. Anyone who can buy attempts in bulk gets there faster.
What gets you furthest without money
Not saving — playing. Specifically:
- Work through the roadmap in order
- Spend odyle energy where the chest is worth most
- Feed the permanent systems early
- From roughly 2200 gear score, kinah per hour gets genuinely good — from there a lot funds itself
In short
- PvE works entirely without paying
- The subscription buys market access, not combat power
- The battle pass is good value but skippable
- Real min-maxing through money exists only in the PvP endgame
